Y’all it’s scary hot. It’s 97 at midday in Boise in June and we’re looking at crazy high winds tonight. I’m writing a poem about this and it’s called ‘Hot Satan Summer.’ Just kidding the real title is much longer and bitchier and involves climate change deniers.
What has everyone been doing? I’ve been doing a lot of webinars and enjoying online lectures/panels/interviews and mostly they are about birds or anti-racism or science writing or very, very random topics because I’m constantly researching for my poems and novels. Last week though the overlap was delightful. I was watching an interview with birder-writers Jonathan Meiburg and Jonathan Slaght, and suddenly in the chat up popped Arati Kumar-Rao, whose journalism about the people of the Thar desert I discovered while researching a poem. And Brandon Taylor was there too and he is a genius. Of course they don’t know me, but I really geeked out. And we all geeked out about Striated caracaras and Fish owls! Yay BIRDS.
MDOU MOCTAR! Love his new album Afrique Victime.
I am really into Twitter right now. My Instagram can languish forever. Mostly I just go check out what Bree Newsome Bass and Kimberlé Crenshaw are tweeting. Always learning from these brilliant women. Much thanks.
I’m building a metalmetalmetal playlist on Spotify if you’re interested in getting your rock on. Currently it’s sounding like all I want is a walk-on role in Eurovision 2, but gimme time and I will make your ears bleed.
Here is a documentary to inspire you to delight in trees as much as Dame Judi Dench delights in trees. Carriethis!
